  • Magnification: They often blow things out of proportion, making problems seem bigger and more daunting.

  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecies: Our thoughts influence our actions; negative spirals can become self-fulfilling if left unchecked.

Acknowledge and Identify:

  • Awareness is Key: Pay attention to your thoughts. Are they constructive or destructive?

  • Mindful Breathing: A few deep breaths can interrupt the spiral and bring you back to the present.

When the spiral hits, channel your alter ego and see how it transforms your perspective. For example, I hopped on Pinterest and typed in keywords like 'strong female characters' and came back with an abundance of options. I found one that really spoke to me, and now when I am in a negative thought spiral I visualize my persona and take a few deep breaths. Within a few seconds, I am out of the spiral.
